The innovation named “Chilica-Pod” was designed by Assoc. Prof. Dr. Warakorn Limbut and his research teams (Mr. Asamee Soleh, Miss Kasrin Saisahas, Mr. Kiattisak Promsuwan, Assoc. Prof. Dr.Proespichaya Kanatharana, and Assoc. Prof. Dr.Panote Thavarungkul), Faculty of Science, Prince of Songkla University. The Chilica-Pod is a portable sensor device integrated with a smartphone for the detection of the pungency of chili peppers by detecting capsaicin content. From the experiment, this simple and inexpensive device can detect capsaicin content up to 0.37 µM in the sample with high precision. The Chilica-Pod got attention from more than 30 foreign media. Moreovere, this innovation received the outstanding project proposal award and the silver prize from the Thailand Research Expo 2020 held during 2-6 August 2020 at Centara Grand Hotel and Bangkok Convention Centre at CentralWorld.
