Mass Sensors

Mass-sensitive devices consist of a piezoelectric material which is covered with a selective surface that leads to variations in mass. One possible way to achieve this is generating artificial recognition materials for sensors, for instance based on molecular imprinting.Molecularly imprinted polymers (MIPs) have attracted substantial interest in the field of chemical and bio-sensing, allowing for straightforward design of good-value analytical apparatus. The most widely applied one is the so-called quartz crystal microbalance (QCM). Mass sensitive MIP sensors based QCM have been developed for a wide range of analytes from small molecules to bio species.
